The Initiative Automotive at the IZB

From October 10 to 13, 2022, Salzgitter AG will be presenting its Initiative Automotive to auto industry representatives at the International Suppliers Fair (IZB) in Wolfsburg.

With over 800 exhibitors and around 50,000 visitors, the IZB once again this year ranks among the largest trade fairs of its kind in Europe.

The themes of “Circular Solutions” and sustainability lie at the heart of our Group strategy, and so the Initiative Automotive will be displaying the circularity of which the Salzgitter Group is already capable, using a hydroformed component as its example.

This exhibit was specially manufactured using reduced-CO₂ steel. The sheet steel was produced by Salzgitter Flachstahl, slit by Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice, turned into a tube by Mannesmann Precision Tubes and shaped by Salzgitter Hydroforming. After long years of use in the customer’s vehicles, this component and others like it were then recycled by DEUMU, another Salzgitter AG subsidiary, and returned to Salzgitter Flachstahl to be reused in the production of new steel, thereby completing the circle.

With the SALCOS program, we are addressing another important element of our Group strategy. Using a body-in-white, we will show you which components made from reduced-CO₂ steel are already being used in automobile manufacture today.
