Our services focus, among other things, on the development of innovative materials with improved properties to meet the requirements of our customers. Another focus is on process development and optimization, where state-of-the-art technologies are used to improve application and manufacturing processes. In addition, SZMF offers services such as materials testing, consulting and training. The company has state-of-the-art laboratory and testing facilities to ensure product quality and develop customer-specific solutions.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice

SMS is a processing specialist within the Salzgitter Group. At two locations, coils are processed into slit strip, strip sheet and blanks for numerous customers in the automotive segment. Our spectrum ranges from thicknesses of 0.5 to 7.0 mm, widths of 20 to 2,000 mm and lengths of up to 6,000 mm, and essentially comprises the common steel grades of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. In addition to the steel grades, the material aluminum is also processed on a contract basis.

Salzgitter Hydroforming

Our services start with consulting our customers on the production-oriented design of hydroformed components (hydroforming) and accompany the complete development process including method development, FEM simulation, process development and tool design.
The end result is a stable series production for hydroformed components with all relevant upstream and downstream manufacturing processes, such as bending, heat treatment, mechanical forming, complex 3D laser cutting and many more.
With our research and development we are permanently pushing the limits of our technology towards your future challenges. High-strength structures, variable wall thicknesses, new materials, integrated functions for the next generation of components - in many cases we already have a solution today.

Salzgitter Automotive Engineering

We at SZAE are experts in sheet metal forming in the field of car body construction.
Our range of services extends from the manufacture of production-ready series tools to parts and components for series production. In addition, we develop and manufacture tools, parts and components for concept and prototype construction.
In addition to complex structural assemblies, we also produce everything that makes up the outer skin of a vehicle body, such as doors, front flaps, trunk lids, roofs and side panels. Our starting materials range from sheet steel, including high-strength, to tailored blanks material, CFRP and various grades of aluminum sheet.

SALCOS^® - We turn steel green

With SALCOS^®, we have joined forces with partners from industry and research to lay the foundations for virtually CO₂-free steel production. Central elements of the concept are electricity from renewable sources and its use in the production of hydrogen by means of electrolysis. This green hydrogen will replace the coal we currently use in the conventional blast furnace process. This will be possible with the help of so-called direct reduction plants, in which iron ore is reduced to iron directly in the solid state by hydrogen. This technology emits water vapor instead of CO₂.

Our SALCOS^® program thus pursues the Carbon Direct Avoidance approach, which stands for avoiding the generation of CO₂ in steel production from the outset. Overall, our approach enables us to reduce CO₂ emissions in steel production by over 95 %.
