CDP awards Salzgitter AG the “A” rating once again – acknowledging the outstanding commitment to climate protection

Salzgitter AG has now been awarded the top grade "A" by the renowned global non-profit organization CDP for its commitment to climate protection - for the second time in a row. Salzgitter AG had already taken the top rating from CDP last year. Once again, the organization evaluated the climate protection measures of over 23,000 companies worldwide. Only four percent, including Salzgitter AG, met the requirements qualifying for admission to the highest rating category.
The repeat of the previous year's success underlines the fact that Salzgitter AG is consistently pursuing its transformation strategy towards greater sustainability and climate protection and is not resting on its laurels in terms of low-carbon steel. The CDP assessment is based on clearly defined criteria: This includes the transparent disclosure of environmental data, the identification and assessment of environmental risks, the introduction of effective management processes and the implementation of specific measures geared to improving environmental performance. The proof of best practices and the definition of ambitious, science-based climate targets are also included in the assessment.
Gunnar Groebler, Chairman of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG commented:
"Receiving the top rating once again is confirmation for us that we are on the right track with our "Salzgitter AG 2030" strategy and are not letting up. Sustainable and efficient industry and climate protection are not mutually exclusive, even in a challenging market environment. Quite to the contrary: The two belong together. Especially with our SALCOS® transformation program, we are taking responsibility and pioneering competitive, low-CO2 steel production in Germany. The fact that we have been awarded an A rating for the second time in a row is both an incentive and an obligation to continue determinedly on our path."
Since 2016, Salzgitter AG has participated annually in the CDP’s reporting format. Receiving the top rating is closely linked to the long-term "Salzgitter AG 2030" strategy, the core of which is the SALCOS® - Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking transformation program. This provides for an incremental conversion of steel production to hydrogen-based processes, thereby making a significant contribution to industrial transformation. At the same time, the Group is relying on collaborative partnerships and innovative strength to actively shape change along the entire value chain.
