New CTG850 materials generation for demanding applications in the automotive industry

Customer requirements are steadily becoming tougher and tougher due to the development of new vehicle models, resulting in new challenges for the semi-finished products. Salzgitter Mannesmann Precision GmbH has consequently developed a new material, CTG850, particularly for shock absorber holders and shock absorber cylinder tubes for higher demands. The objective of the CTG850 development was essentially to provide the market with a high strength material. In keeping with the more demanding requirements, its static strength is greater than that of the materials that have been used until now.

CTG850 is a material with special mechanical characteristics. The diagram below shows a comparison of the mechanical characteristics in the form of maximum tensile stress Rm, yield strength Rp0.2 and elongation at break A for CTG850 and an E355 material in delivery condition +C. The achievable performance increase is readily apparent.
