At this year's Blechexpo in Stuttgart the Salzgitter Group, with its subsidiaries Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice GmbH (SMS), Salzgitter Europlatine GmbH (SZEP), Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel GmbH (SMSD), and Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG), focused on intensive exchanges with customers and partners.

As a highlight, the Salzgitter AG Initiative Automotive presented a show car with a variety of applications for the body, such as the resource-friendly StronSal® zinc-magnesium coating in body shell quality and thin dual phase steel for body shell elements. Also shown was the Golf 7 GTi and its modular MQB chassis made of SZBS800.

A study of the potential of an axle cross beam made of Tailor Welded Blanks (TWB) with RobuSal®800 and SZBS800 drew special attention. The use of TWB combined with the special Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH grades allowed an 18% weight reduction compared to the serial version.

The COMDaS (Customer Online Material Data System) that is now available online was also presented at the trade fair. COMDaS allows customers to access the material database around the clock. The system holds material data in accordance with SEP1240 that are representative of the Salzgitter Flachstahl product range. Both the data and material cards for the most common finite element programs can be downloaded at no charge.

The many talks proceeded very successfully. The group and its subsidiaries were given a very warm reception, and are looking forward to working with their customers.
